Micah 5:10-15 - Standing on the Rock

Scripture:

Micah 5:10-15
10 "It will be in that day," declares the Lord,
"That I will cut off your horses from among you
And destroy your chariots.
11 "I will also cut off the cities of your land
And tear down all your fortifications.
12 "I will cut off sorceries from your hand,
And you will have fortune-tellers no more.
13 "I will cut off your carved images
And your sacred pillars from among you,
So that you will no longer bow down
To the work of your hands.
14 "I will root out your Asherim from among you
And destroy your cities.
15 "And I will execute vengeance in anger and wrath
On the nations which have not obeyed."
NASU

Thoughts:

Micah continues in the prophecy of God's future judgment.  In that back drop, we can draw some conclusions about the worthlessness of things we might cling to for protection, instead of God:

Technology:  horses and chariots (verse 10)

Buildings and other fortifications:  cities, fortifications (verses 11, 14b)

Occultism and superstition:  sorceries, fortune-tellers (verse 12)

False religion:  worship of Asherim (verse 14)

None of these or anything else we might imagine, are worthy of our confidence.  Though we wisely lock our doors on our homes and use other commonsense measures to protect ourselves and families, it is truly the Lord in whom we must trust.  One need only see the results in a clash between the forces of nature and our man-made structures, to realize the depth of this truth.  How much greater is the One who created nature, itself!

Prayer:

Lord, help me to rest in Your strength, today.  You truly are my shelter and defense.  Thank You!

Amen
