Acts 17:24-25 - Lord of all

Scripture:

Acts 17:24-25
24 "The God who made the world and all things in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands;
25 nor is He served by human hands, as though He needed anything, since He Himself gives to all people life and breath and all things

Thoughts:

In Paul's speech before the Greek philosophers, he relates the truth that God is the Lord of all.  He created all things and we depend on Him for life.  However, taking an honest look at our actions from day to day, we need to ask ourselves, do I really believe this?  Do I believe that He is Lord of all, including me?

How easily we find ourselves demanding things of Him (often in the form of asking Him but with the idea that only one answer will do), rather than seeking His will for our lives.  We tend to see Him more as a kindly parent, who always consents to our desires and never contradicts us.  We act and think as though we ourselves are lord, and He is our servant!

I think kingship is a hard concept for Americans to follow, as we either elect our leadership (politicians), or have the freedom to change jobs and therefore have new leadership in our employment.  We often think of our leaders as owing us something, or being there to serve us.  The idea of a king who is to be followed simply because he has the position and authority, is lost on us.

But for those who have placed their faith in Christ for salvation, we have become His servants and acknowledged Him as King.  Therefore, we should follow and serve Him as King.  Not because He needs anything from us (verse 25), but because this is simply the right order of things.  And truly, He is King of all (King of kings, and Lord of lords), but most don't know it.

Prayer:

Lord, forgive me for forgetting my place before You.  Being disrespectful to You, in truth.

You are my God.  I exist for You, and am Your servant.  Let me live this out today, by Your power!  I put my confidence in You.  Let Your will be done in my life.

Amen
