1 John 2:15-17 - Living for the will of God

Scripture:

1 John 2:15-17
15 Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.
17 The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever.
NASU

Thoughts:

I don't think we can hear this admonishment too much as Christians.  So quickly and easily we slide back into loving worldly things.  These may or may not be overtly sinful things to the eyes of others, but are things that pull us away from a focus on Christ.

Verse 17 could be the life verse of every Christian who will ever or has ever lived.  It's such a statement of priorities.  Will we live for that which is "passing away," or for the will of God which has eternal reward for His children?

This question is easily answered, but it is in the application that we stumble.  Rather than thinking about this once in a while, it needs to be our constant filter for our thoughts, decisions, and actions.

Prayer:

Lord, help me!  Help me to use this filter today in all that I do.  I am confident that You can do this.

Amen
